Social Inclusiveness Proposal Intro: The topic I am focusing on is social inclusiveness,
I will be answering Is Melbourne Inclusive?
Who is looked after and who isn’t?
Should this be changed? Answer 1: Melbourne is very inclusive compared to other place’s, I still think it could have a lot more improvements on that. It’s hard to say at this point since I am not on city bound but from what I know it is and it isn’t, so it’s quite equal but I’m interested to find out more about that during city bound. Answer 2: Your average worker in Melbourne is looked after the most from what I know from experiences in the city, for example in a rush hour when all the workers like accountants go to get there food you get shoved around treated like your nothing just because you’re young, I got pushed in front of in queues and usually if you were in Mornington this would be a rare act to push in front of someone everyone’s so much more relaxed but up in the city they just want to get there food eat have coffee and get back to work as fast as possible!
So there for I believe kids/teenagers are treated a bit unfairly. But im sure that there are many other types of people that are treated unfairly and badly, which I still need to find out. I know that gays would be looked upon by some and also homeless, but I haven’t seen or witnessed this before but I know that I will during city bound. Answer 3: In some ways this should be changed, I wouldn’t think so much kids/ teenagers but defiantly gays and homeless, I really strongly disagree with people that are against gays, they should not be treated worse than people that aren’t gay. Same with homeless people, homeless people deserve a bit of respect because they are living the hard way, even though they may be seen as or have a stereotype of people that lost all their money on gambling or wasted all their money on drugs I’m sure there not all like that and that there are some that are just a lot less fortunate than us.
RM2: I will gather information by reading articles about this topic and issue, I will also interview teacher like Ms. Kaindel (or any other teacher with experience with this topic) i will talk to Ms. Kaindel because I know she has a lot of knowledge with this topic. By doing this I will find out information that might be extremely resourceful and interesting and will help us with this topic. One day during school, most likely more closer to city bound I will talk to Ms. Kaindel and make a time during lunch time to meet and organise a place where I can ask her questions and understand what she has to say. RM3:We can talk to people on the streets of Melbourne City, but we would have to be careful with who we choose to speak to and what we ask since we don’t want people getting offended in anyway. So I thought maybe surveying people from shops or organisations instead of complete strangers off the street. We would have think of question extremely carefully since some could get offended by what we ask, they would have to be questions that are easy to understand and answer. One person would need to be asking the questions and the rest writing down what they hear since we want as much thurror information and answers as possible from each person we survey. RM4: We can go to the flinders street steps, where a lot of Goth’s, homeless and different type people often hang out. We can catch a tram there and have a sheet with questions or notes and see what we observe. We can even go to Homeless shelters and observe how they are treated, if its good or bad and so on. Before going to a homeless shelter we would need to research obviously where it is, how safe it is and if it would be a good place to observe things. By going to these places it will give as a more open, wider look of things and help us see if Melbourne is inclusive. We can use a camera to take photos of what we see. RM5: There a many places we can go and observe, for instance we can watch a busker or a homeless person and observe the people around them and see if they are respectful towards the person. We can go to homeless shelters and soup kitchens and see what the behaviour is like there even the flinders street steps, since many Goths and different types of people hang around there. To go to all these places, we need to find the right place to sit and observe, also if the areas are safe for us to be. This will involve research and maybe even permission from a teacher. RM6: There are many experiments we can do to understand fully what the social inclusiveness in Melbourne is like. One could be dressing up as a homeless or a Goth and, maybe even going into a store and buying something and see what the people think of you and how you are treated. RM7: people that we could interview for this topic I thought would be ones that raise money for homeless people and own a shelter or are a constant volunteer they would have a lot of professional thought about how they are treated here in Melbourne. To be able to speak to people in a high position that are experts on what we need to know, we are going to have to research a bit about it and find contact details, then call them or email them and set a day and time where we can speak to them. In doing that we would have to be very organised and professional and get there right on team even early, and have many questions written down at the time. Even filming I thought would be a good idea since we could put together a video of all our methods and then look over what we have said and heard to we don’t miss any information. If we wanted to film we would have to ask who ever we are speaking to, there permission in case they are not comfortable with a camera there.
3.0 Individual Contribution My individual contribution will be including my knowledge that I already have into the group. I am very responsible and I know a lot about the city since my mum encourages me to go there a lot to get a feeling of travelling by myself and with friends. I’m good at making the right decision about things, and since I am so interested in this topic it will be hard to not do any work, so I will work hard on finding as much information as possible. I am also very creative and love my art so I will have good ideas for the presentation on the last night. 3.1 Strengths I have a creative mind, so I will have many ideas on how to present things. I have also been told I am very good at speaking and connecting with people when I speak to others. When I get my mind to it I can get a lot done! I feel that I have a lot of strengths to bring to this group. 3.2 Contacts/Experiences I don’t know many contacts besides teachers that I could speak to about this topic. But I do know someone that works in Melbourne as an accountant, and we may be able to ask him a few question from his experiences in the city, on what he thinks about Melbourne being exclusive. I have many experiences and incidents in the city since I spend a lot of time up there, but they have mainly been on the train. 3.3 Interest My interest in this topic is mainly gays a and homeless, I want to know how gays are treated or looked upon in the city because my sister best friends ‘Rob’ he is gay and I can’t imagine anyone being rude to him because of his sexuality because he is such a great person. Also with the homelessness I know is a big issue in a lot of European countries, but I don’t know what or how it’s like here in Melbourne, during city bound I’m interested to see how people treat the homeless and anyone of another culture.
CITY BOUND
Research methods Ella mason
Intro- Social Inclusiveness, Is Melbourne Inclusive? Who is looked after and who isn’t? Should this be changed? Is Melbourne Inclusive? Within the city there are groupings, I believe our main problem is the business district they do not understand that there is another part to society and people live their daily life. There is no doubt homeless people get treated different to the general public, but half the time these homeless people are harmless, they are just less fortunate and do not have the support they need to get up off their feet. Research method 1- Perception Analysis. My perception- Melbourne is one of the cleanest and a very safe city, in saying that there is always room for improvement. In the program ‘city bound’ we can find out does Melbourne have Social Inclusiveness. What can we change to make Melbourne so everyone is accepted? Everyone should be treated the same, homeless people don’t deserved to be treated differently just because they have a tougher life than the people who have a roof over their head and can afford simple daily life. Family perception- My Grandma, she lives in the city and she would have a good perception and view on Melbourne’s issues and what works well in the city. She would be easy to access on city bound as she lives in the city. School’s perception- Students in years 10 and above who have experienced the city on city bound and teachers who run the program and have been on the experience many times. They would have the widest range of knowledge as they have seen the city during working hours and have spent the most amount of time during the week. We would set up an interview with one of the groups from a previous year that has studied this area and ask them their views on social inclusiveness in Melbourne.
Research method 2 – Gathering information and teacher interview. Teacher interview: Mr Walter as he is part of the city community. Sources of information: General public and internet, for any in-the-past news concerns. Books and libraries aren’t a source as they aren’t always in date, and do not really have that information.
Research method 3 – Questionnaire Surveys. Questionnaire can be targeting the general public. Question like do you should the homeless people be put off the streets and into shelters, how do you feel about Melbourne’s homeless people and do you think the homeless people are looked after if not, how can they be? The questionnaire can also target the different groupings and if Melbourne is inclusive, as the general public straight out what they think. Research method 4 – Walking and Mapping Discovery. Mapping the city to see the different areas and what kind people hang out there. See how people react to the less fortunate. Map out the areas that have more individual groupings. Research method 5 – Passive Interpretation. We could complete this method by just sitting back and watching how the city works. See who is included and who isn’t. Research method 6 – Experiment – testing your ideas. See how the public reacts to someone who is ‘out of place’ like a school kid in a main area for the working society. See if they say something or if they just give you some ‘looks,’ do they ignore the fact that you are there? WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN HOW. Research method 7 – Face to Face Interviews and Provisional Conclusion. The people we could interview for this topic are people who work in this area, volunteers are also an option. Melbourne shelters and groups, who support the people in need, people who run these support groups. We could arrange interviews to suit them as we are taking up their time. We would tape their voice in some sort of way as long as they are happy with this. We would then analyse the recording at home and put it into a written statement. Individual contribution. I can supply support to the group and help them all the way up to city bound as I’m not going to be there for the duration working in the city. Strengths. I believe my strength would be the passion for this topic and how everyone should be equal, I believe this topic could go a lot further than just being inclusive and it can become a world issue. Contact / Experience. My Grandma lives in the city therefor I have spent a bit of time up there. Catch the train up to flinders street to see her. Interests. I think Social inclusiveness will be interesting because you will get a better understanding on how the city works. It will also show a good understanding the percentage of people that live underneath the average life style. I also feel strongly about everyone being equal and I believe by studding this topic we can find out way how we can change this.

Intro: The topic that I will be studying in the city I will be studying Social Inclusiveness. We will be answering is Melbourne Inclusive? Who is looked and who isn’t? Should this be changed?
Answer: Melbourne in my view is inclusive. Yes on a world scale the city of Melbourne may not be as bad as some but I still do believe that in Melbourne people who are perceived as different are different. E.g.: gays, homeless, religious, different culture s and race are treated and perceived differently.
RM1: PERCEPTION ANAYLIS:
Family: My sister has a very strong view on Social Inclusiveness. She has worked with Sudanese and she had very strong views on people being treated the same. This would be good for her to tell us she saw them get perceived and me now she loves them but on how she was perceived working with them as well. I would be able to do this before we go up to the city so this would be a good thing to have up our sleeves before we even go to the city.
Government and private industry leaders: The parliament member of Melbourne. To see what he is doing to prevent social inclusiveness in Melbourne. They are a step up from Family and they can directly do a lot more for the people mainly homeless people to feel less socially inclusive. Depending on time we could even go and see them before we go up to city because talking to a high levelled governor would be so beneficial so we would have to adjust to suit their needs.
Gathering information and teacher interview: RM2
Mrs Kaindel has worked with all different sorts of people and I think that she will be the perfect person to help us with information and who else we could talk to. We would also love to talk to Mr Eldenhoven because he is a strong part of the aboriginal community and it would be very beneficial to find out how he was perceived with his beliefs and culture. Before we go to the city we will have a good talk with Miss Kaindel. Because she will be able to give us a lot more people to talk to with contacts and that will lead us to so much information.
Questionnaire Surveys: RM3
I think it would be very beneficial to try and survey people on a yes or a no answer. I don’t think busy business people will be interested in a long survey so I presume a lot of small ones but with a lot more questions will be good. Questions such as: Is there social inclusiveness in Melbourne? Do you fell socially exclusive in Melbourne and for a longer more detailed survey why do you think this occurs?
We need to do this because we need to know what the people of Melbourne think. Why they think that. What they want done about social inclusiveness. We will try and do this at any time. I don’t think this I something that needs to done be done at the start of the program. I think we could save it to the start of the 2nd weeks at the latest. But it is something we could do at any time. So whilst someone else is working inside City Cite the rest of us could go and survey for 45 minutes or so just so that we are always doing something that will help us with are final presentation and mark.
Walking and Mapping Discovery: RM4
China town. To see how the Asian culture lives within it’s more realistic culture.
Soup Kitchens. To see and experience homeless people in as natural environment as they would be able to get in.
Flinders St Station. To see hoe a busy place runs in peek time. To see how different social so called status interact and do some people treat some different and other not the same way.
We need to get an understanding of Melbourne from the very first day. Get an understanding of where these inclusive spots are how much time we need to spend their watching these hot spots. I think early on in the week we should do this because once we now how important these players are we will now if we need to spend for time their later on in the program.
RM5: Passive Interpretation
I would love to observe so many different people and this method is something that will be really good for are topic .We could of observe gay people in the city. Homeless people and how they act and get acted towards. Asian culture and if they act different or get treated. ( that goes for all cultures) If we could get this done early in the topic it would be good because we could observe then act then it would always be very easy to go out and observe again to see if we can get new ideas and if or how we could improve any old ideas. I think we will be able to find what we are looking to observe very easy in the city and then just follow or observe what we see for a while until we finally get enough off an idea of what we were looking for.
RM6: Experiment. Testing your ideas
Dressing up as a homeless person and seeing how we are perceived.
Acting gay?
Talking to different cultures about how think they get perceived and how they perceive different cultures.
We could do this at any time during the course. I think it would be better if we did this in very busy places. Like if we did something like this in Federation Square. Not really important when we do this because there is not much follow on work for this part.
RM7: Face to Face Interviews.
Jackson Martin: How he gets treated as Gay.
Alanna’s Sisters Friend: How he is treated as gay as well
Sister: As worked with Africans so she will be very good to get a lot of information out of.
We would be easily able to this before we actually start the two weeks in the city. This way we can go up knowing we have already got a really strong base of work that we can build on.
Individual Contribution:
I will bring a good vibe to the team. Always working hard to try and get the best out of this city bound. I was already excited for city bound before I got my topic. But since I have got it I have been so happy with how are team looks like they are going to work. Our topic something I think that is very open ended. I have worked with people that are less fortunate in the pass such as orphans in Bali where I painted a room in their house and where we spent a lot of time with time playing soccer on the beach and getting to know each other. People are perceived as different are very regularly actually any different to you. You just need to know how to talk to them and act around them and all of sudden everyone feels the like they are the same. I will also bring a hard working attitude with people skills so in interviews I will be able to hold and construct conversations.
Strengths:
My strengths will be my ability to talk to anyone who needs to be interviewed. I also will be confident enough to go up to people on the street and interview them about are topic. When it comes to hard work I will be more than happy to stay behind after house so work that we need done will get done.
Contacts: I don’t have a lot of contacts in the city for this topic so I was going to go and see Mrs Kaindel and see if she could help me out with any which I could then organise to meet when we are in the city.
Interests.
I am really interest to find out how it will be to travel up and back to city every day. Along with using community service a lot it will be good to have responsibilities like and adult. I will really like how we need to keep on top of things and we have to be very independent. I will enjoy the challengers of getting lost which I am sure will happen because this will teach me a lot about myself and the people around me. I am really looking forward to looking into my interest of social inclusiveness because I think it is something that there is not enough done about in the city.

Research Method-2 SCHOOL: Some people at school that I could talk to would be teachers such as Ms Kaindel because she feels really passionate about kids that are unfortunate. She has worked with many kids and helped them in need. She went to Cambodia to help build new houses for them and she also helped improve their school so they can get a better education. Another teacher that has a very strong perspective on aboriginal people and how we respect them is Mr Aldenhoven. Would could interview them soon because we obviously go to school with them and they would be easy to organise something with. GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE INDUSTRY LEADERS: We could see the new young Member of Parliament and other people who work with social inclusiveness. We could ask them for an interview with us if they are free at any point during the two weeks. Research Method-3 For this we could ask random people off the street who look like they live and work in Melbourne and see what they say about Social Inclusiveness. We would do this because they obviously are in the city a lot and they see and observe how people are treated around the city of Melbourne. We could ask questions such as “do you think Melbourne is an Inclusive city? Should anything be changed? What is your opinion on Social Inclusiveness?” this would just be on the streets asking random people so we could do this at any time. Research Method-4 We could go to China Town to see how the Asian culture lives with the Melbourne and see how they get along and what’s different. Soup Kitchen. We would be able to see how homeless people act around there natural environment. To see how they act around each other and how they treat each other. Flinders Street station would be good to be around during peak time to see how everybody treats each other because they are all in a rush and see if they get tempered at all. We could interview people who work close with the Asian culture and see if we could get an interview off them. Research Method-5 For this we would go to places were homosexuals, homeless, lesbians and people of other culture and just see how they interact with other people. See were they go, observe what they do and how people look at them and see if they give them different looks to other people. We could possibly interview one of them somehow. If not our closest research will have to be people off the streets who act gay and who go to gay bars. Research Method-6 We could pretend to be a homeless person or differently to other people just for a bit and see how people treat us and just see what happens. What people think of us and how they look at us? We could do this on one of the most common streets of which people walk on so we can really see every reaction from everybody. We would try to organise this so that it is during peek time. Research Method-7 For this question we could go to places where homeless people actually go such as the Soup Kitchen and interview people who work there to see what their opinion is on homeless people and how they are treated. We are also going to interview Jackson Martin who feels very strongly against homosexual people and how they are treated so much differently to people who aren’t homosexual. We could also ask Alanna’s friend how he is treated as a gay. We would interview the closest people first because they would be easier to contact then work our way up. Individual contribution: I think that I will be a good source to come to for homeless people because I have seen them everywhere. I have experienced it firsthand how they get treated and how sad it is to see them. I also think that I will be a hard worker to the group because I feel very strongly about this topic and what to do it to the best of my ability and take no shortcuts. This topic is really interesting and I am really excited to learn more and see how it pans out in the future. Strengths: My strengths to this group are certainly going to be observing how people act to each other and working hard to get a good mark but only that but to learn as much as I can about Melbourne and how is as a city. Contacts: We could go to Ms Kaindel and see if she knows anyone in the city who also feels strongly about people who get treated differently. My dad always goes into Melbourne for work and most of the time he might go out to get a coffee or have some lunch, so I could go to him and ask him what he thinks and if it should change. Does he think people could be more respectable of people’s rights and how they want to live there life and what they think of themselves? Interests: The interests that I have with this topic are the thoughts that I want to see how people who are less fortunate deal with their lives. I just think that this topic is very interesting and we could get a lot of information out of it. I think that it is going to be good to see how people treat us acting as adults doing work every day and learning something new every day. How the community looks at us as kids or adults. I am very excited to do this topic and I think it going to be a really great experience for me and the whole group. I was excited even before we got our topics because everyone who has done city bound says it is the greatest thing at school that you will do.

Research Method-2
SCHOOL: Some people at school that I could talk to would be teachers such as Ms Kaindel because she feels really passionate about kids that are unfortunate.
Research Method-3
For this we could ask random people off the street who look like they live and work in Melbourne and see what they say about Social Inclusiveness.
Research Method-4
We could go to China Town to see how the Asian culture lives with the Melbourne and see how they get along and what’s different.
Research Method-5
For this we would go to places were homosexuals, homeless, lesbians and people of other culture and just see how they interact with other people. See were they go, observe what they do and how people look at them and see if they give them different looks to other people. We could possibly interview one of them somehow. If not our closest research will have to be people off the streets who act gay and who go to gay bars.
Research Method-6
We could pretend to be a homeless person or differently to other people just for a bit and see how people treat us and just see what happens. What people think of us and how they look at us? We could do this on one of the most common streets of which people walk on so we can really see every reaction from everybody. We would try to organise this so that it is during peek time.
Research Method-7
For this question we could go to places where homeless people actually go such as the Soup Kitchen and interview people who work there to see what their opinion is on homeless people and how they are treated.
